Unfortunately ,we are only here for a layover and then on to Prague. We will be flying with our friends at KLM.

We just got home from picking up our daughter. She spent the last week in Spain. Flight delays meant she didn’t land until 1:15 this morning. Then we had to drive an hour back from New Orleans and play taxi for one of her friends. It’s time to sleep.

I do go to Asia, but it has been a while. This is a work trip, so I go where I need to go. I was in Asia a couple of times two years ago.   I’m looking at a position in Seoul that is posted now  and tried for one in Shanghai last year.

I just finished a big ordeal coming back from Singapore. I thought I had enough of a layover, then I encountered a whole new level of ineptitude and inadequacy when going through immigration at the San Francisco airport. Took over two hours to clear immigration and my flight had already left before I had to go through the whole security theater again.

American airports suck shitty assholes, they’re laid out like shit and the employees are useless cunts.

Speaking for most of the Eastern US, that extra 4-8 hours of travel time to Asia (vs West Coast) is extremely intimidating. IMHO Europe isn’t a cultural choice as much as it is convenience.

Same with Hawaii. I hear amazing stuff, but I can do all of Mexico, Caribbean, and Central America in about half the flight.

NYC to Osaka is roughly a 13- 14 h flight... It’s really not bad... Sure, NYC-Paris is like 7 h but LAX - Paris is 11h and LAX-Osaka is 12 h... so for a huge portion of the US, it really doesn’t matter whether they’d go to Asia or Europe when it comes to flight time.

I’ve done all those flights or very similar, and on a modern plane like the 787, those 14h flights really don’t matter so much...

Our service is seasonal and starts May 1.  I’m flying Delta on the way home.

I would certainly make the effort! I’d like to get to Japan for holiday soon and get out of Tokyo.
